Chapter 8: Tallest of Trees
Complete walkthrough for all 6 habitats high in the forest canopy — every Smiley Flower, discovery, and Golden Bug location.
Canopeel Habitat
A chameleon-like creature that clings to bark and blends into tree surfaces. Its sticky tongue can grab distant items and pull Yoshi across gaps.
🌸 3 Smiley Flowers 1 Inspect the creature clinging to the tree trunk with the Magnifying Glass.
2 Gobble the Canopeel (B) — Yoshi gains a sticky tongue. Press Y to shoot it at distant branches.
3 Shoot the tongue at the branch above the wide gap to swing across. Smiley Flower 1 is on the platform on the far side.
4 Climb the tree trunk using the tongue to latch onto bark knots. Smiley Flower 2 is on the ledge halfway up.
5 Find the Golden Bug on the underside of the large branch — shoot the tongue upward to latch on and hang below it.
6 Swing across the series of hanging vines using tongue shots in sequence. Smiley Flower 3 is at the end of the vine chain.
7 Shoot the tongue at the giant seed pod at the top of the tree — it swings open, revealing the Big Discovery. Jump into the sparkly spot to finish.
Nestling Habitat
A baby bird that hasn't learned to fly yet. It follows Yoshi everywhere and can be tossed upward to flutter briefly, reaching low platforms above.
🌸 4 Smiley Flowers 1 Inspect the baby bird on the nest with the Magnifying Glass.
2 The Nestling immediately starts following Yoshi. Toss it upward (Y while carrying) to make it flutter to a low ledge.
3 Toss the Nestling onto the ledge above the starting area — it lands and waits. Jump up to join it. Smiley Flower 1 is there.
4 Carry the Nestling to the gap with the moving platforms. Toss it across to the far platform, then Flutter Jump to follow. Smiley Flower 2 is on the far side.
5 Find the Golden Bug in the hollow tree — toss the Nestling through the small opening, then crouch to enter.
6 Toss the Nestling up three ledges in sequence to reach the high canopy. Smiley Flower 3 is on the second ledge.
7 At the top, toss the Nestling toward the parent bird's nest on the far right. Smiley Flower 4 appears when it lands safely.
8 Carry the Nestling all the way to the parent bird at the treetop — the reunion is the Big Discovery. Jump into the sparkly spot to finish.
Barkbeetle Habitat
A large beetle that burrows into tree bark, creating tunnels. Its hard shell can be used as a sled on sloped bark surfaces.
🌸 3 Smiley Flowers 1 Inspect the large beetle on the tree bark with the Magnifying Glass.
2 Jump on the Barkbeetle (A) — it flips onto its back. Ride it down the sloped bark like a sled.
3 Ride it down the first slope and launch off the ramp at the bottom. Smiley Flower 1 is in the air above the ramp.
4 Gobble a Barkbeetle (B) and carry it to the bark wall. It burrows in, creating a tunnel. Crawl through. Smiley Flower 2 is inside.
5 Find the Golden Bug at the bottom of the longest slope — ride the Barkbeetle all the way down without jumping off.
6 Ride the Barkbeetle up the curved ramp on the right to loop around to the upper level. Smiley Flower 3 is at the top of the loop.
7 Carry a Barkbeetle to the giant bark wall at the back and let it burrow all the way through — the tree opens up. This is the Big Discovery. Jump into the sparkly spot to finish.
Leafwrap Habitat
A caterpillar wrapped in leaves that can be unrolled into a long bridge. When rolled back up, it bounces Yoshi high into the air.
🌸 3 Smiley Flowers 1 Inspect the leaf-wrapped creature on the branch with the Magnifying Glass.
2 Grab the Leafwrap's end (B) and pull — it unrolls into a flat leaf bridge across the gap.
3 Walk across the leaf bridge to the far platform. Smiley Flower 1 is on the platform.
4 Let the Leafwrap roll back up. Jump on the rolled-up Leafwrap (A) — it bounces Yoshi very high. Smiley Flower 2 is above.
5 Find the Golden Bug on the branch above the second Leafwrap — bounce off it to reach the branch.
6 Unroll the long Leafwrap near the cliff to bridge the widest gap. Smiley Flower 3 is on the far side.
7 Bounce off all three Leafwraps in sequence to reach the very top of the tree — this is the Big Discovery. Jump into the sparkly spot to finish.
Spriggle Habitat
A spring-loaded twig creature that launches Yoshi in the direction it's aimed. It resets after each use.
🌸 4 Smiley Flowers 1 Inspect the twig creature coiled on the branch with the Magnifying Glass.
2 Stand on the Spriggle and aim with the left stick — it launches Yoshi in that direction when you press A.
3 Launch left to reach the hidden platform behind the leaves. Smiley Flower 1 is there.
4 Launch upward from the second Spriggle to reach the high canopy ledge. Smiley Flower 2 is on the ledge.
5 Find the Golden Bug by launching diagonally right from the third Spriggle — aim carefully.
6 Chain two Spriggle launches to cross the wide section — launch right, then immediately launch up from the second one. Smiley Flower 3 is at the top.
7 Launch from the final Spriggle at maximum height — aim straight up. Smiley Flower 4 is at the apex.
8 Launch from the giant Spriggle at the treetop — it sends Yoshi above the clouds. This is the Big Discovery. Jump into the sparkly spot to finish.
Timboom Habitat
A woodpecker-like creature that drums on hollow trees to create shockwaves. Its drumming can knock fruit down and reveal hidden cavities.
🌸 3 Smiley Flowers 1 Inspect the woodpecker creature on the hollow tree with the Magnifying Glass.
2 Gobble the Timboom (B) and carry it to the hollow tree trunk. It drums automatically, sending a shockwave through the wood.
3 The shockwave knocks down the fruit cluster above — a hidden platform appears. Smiley Flower 1 is on the platform.
4 Carry the Timboom to the second hollow tree. The shockwave cracks it open, revealing a hidden cavity. Smiley Flower 2 is inside.
5 Find the Golden Bug in the fruit cluster at the top of the tallest tree — drum the base to shake it loose.
6 Carry the Timboom to the giant hollow log at the far right. The shockwave travels all the way through and blasts open the far end. Smiley Flower 3 is inside.
7 Drum all five hollow trees in sequence — the combined shockwave splits the ancient tree at the center. This is the Big Discovery. Jump into the sparkly spot to finish.
